A daily slice of life through my eyes

Drive in stalls to an end.

Unlike many of my friends, I don't have childhood memories of the drive in at all. Coming from Durban I recall friends who stayed in the flats next door and would tune in every Saturday night for the double feature.

I discovered the Velskoen Drive in a couple of years back, but since I've met Craig have paid a mere 2 visits to the drive in within the last 3 years. I'm sure its one of those things whereby as a child the adventure of watching movies and camping out is what makes the trip so special. To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of eating on my lap and being confined to small spaces but the drive in has this elusive charm about it. Its about meeting up and roughing it and for the price you pay per car its not a bad deal.

Sadly though I've learned that Joburgs drive in is about to close down and according to rumour will be replaced with a property development. Here Cassie and I visit the drive in last week with the boys for a double feature of action and dancing - a Ryan Reynolds film followed by Footloose 2012 version.

Ironically the wording on the screen at the time of the shot resonates with the drive in's impending doom. Rest in peace and thanks for the memories.
