Insy Winsy - Not so much!

I've never classified myself as a typical girl scared of creepy crawlies but tonight is the exception.

Over the last 2 evenings I've watched a resident spider take on not 1 but 2 mole crickets with ease and double in size within 24 hours!

Turns out this spider is in fact highly venomous, the Brown Button Spider, and it takes no prisoners. I yelp with every iota of fear, this aint pretty so don't go any further if you're scared of the 8 legged critters. Thanks to my cousin Cole for his expert advice.

Day One - Scary but still teeny....

Day Two (tonight) Doubled in Size!

  1. Yep, that is definitely a brown button spider couz, which is a close relative of the highly venomous Black Button Spider (aka Black Widow Spider)! Even though their venom is not as toxic as the Black Widow, it can be fatal for children and the elderly! Fortunately, it won't be enough to kill a full grown adult human, but the severity of the side effects will make you wish you were dead! What I am a bit concerned about couz is that if it can grow double its size in a short span of 24 hours, implies that she might have laid a egg sacks within the bar handles and was making her fat for the infants to feed of. The egg sacks are creamy/white in colour and have a spikey appearance. One sac can contain more than a 100 infant spiders. If they hatch, you will probably end up fumigating your entire house! So just make sure you have a good look!

By the way, if you want to see photographs of a button spider catching a snake that I told you about, copy and paste the link below and you will that this species of spider is respected and approach with caution:

Hope you have a great evening!

    God bless!
