The reason you probably haven't taken the first step toward giving your mind a rest could vary from being "too tired" to "I've tried but I can't concentrate for more than a minute". Good news for those of you suffering from anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, chronic pain and other dis-ease - meditation is here to help.
Not so New Age
Contrary to what you may think, meditation has been around for hundreds of years, dating back to ancient civilizations in Indian and Eastern cultures and more recently the time of Jesus Christ.
Meditation is so much more than just sitting and being still, if you've ever tried it you'll know exactly how difficult it is to 'wipe clean' that busy mind and just 'be'.
But is meditation for you?
The benefits continue
So you're still contemplating if meditation is for you? What if I told you that;
- You can eliminate insomnia.
- You could improve your productivity.
- You could cope better with life/work stresses.
- You would be slower to anger.
- It improves your general well being.
- It helps us solve problems and gain insights in our quiet time.
- It assists even the most ADD person with concentration.
- Lowers heart rate and blood pressure.
- You'll feel like you've been on a holiday after 10 minutes.
- You're more likely to fall pregnant and have that baby you want.
It gets easier - but you've gotta start somewhere
So if you're ready to take the first step, start with 2 minutes and work your way up. Put yourself in a comfortable room with low light or candles and some gentle music of your choice. Close your eyes and imagine a blank canvas in front of you (often I wipe away the thoughts in my head like I'm wiping down a chalk board - as they pop into mind I wipe them off) and believe me it's going to get busy!
I would love to hear your feedback re the meditation sessions you've tried, pop me an email or comment on this post. Make the time, persevere and reap the rewards - it really is that simple.
