I had decided at least 3 years before my big 3-oh! that I wanted an arranged event for my celebrations. It wasn't that I wanted a massive, all expenses paid party, but that my birthday was to be both memorable and elaborate (within reason and budget).
So off we went to an old favourite in Hartebeespoortdam to a venue that I had visited years before with family. Unexpectedly I had rested on the idea that The Ring Oxwagon Lodge would more than suffice as a party option as it was both inexpensive and cosy. What made the most impact was that everyone could stay over in the original Oxwagon accommodation or the converted double decker bus which was more dorm style than comfortable. We had affectionately dubbed these dwellings as "The naughty bus" for those less regimented night owls who literally wanted to stumble to their resting place after the party.
The evening started with a rushed and manic Tanith, completely behind schedule, my family and friends managed to help me pull a rabbit out of a hat with decor, flowers and music all set up and ready. The magic is still with me, we had so much fun. Time just flew by, I honestly don't know where on earth it went but before I knew it, it was over. I was so spoiled by my friends, just having them all there meant the world to me and made me realise how truly blessed (and loved) I am.
Thank you to everyone who was there, to my sister for her support and tolerance of me that day and for my mom and dad who flew up with their partners. I wish I could do it all again, record it all in HD and relive the fun, the skinny dipping, the vodka jelly syringes and the dance floor shenanigans.
Best memory: Dancing with my dad, having my sister and mom there, skinny dipping with my girls. Being told I have the best bum someone has ever seen in their entire lives (personal joke). Realisation: I shouldn't wear a dress without a tan or a calf session. For some reason I have more double chin that any other time I can recall on film. LOL! Good times.
