Meet Scarlett, my first ever and very own car. What most may not know about me is that I put off buying a car and empowering myself until I was 26 years old.
To be honest I never really took the time to find out or risk the rejection of getting my own vehicle finance so it wasn't until my boss (back then) organized all the paper work on my behalf. I signed away and she's been mine ever since. It's kinda like ripping off a plaster, the anticipation was too great for me to deal with so I never took the time to just do it. When I eventually had someone "rip it off" for me, there was in fact no injury. Silly how fear can keep you back, but that's another blog posting for another day.
Anyway Scarlett is literally like a child to me. Ive only ever let 2 people drive her and then the agony was unbearable. I'm overly pedantic I realize this but in the same breath I've waited so long to call her mine, who blames me?
In 2008 Scarlett had endured a smash and grab on my side ( the drivers ) and I was assaulted by this guy who wanted my cellphone. He never came right but I took quite a beating to the chest and then decided to join Tae know do. From then Scarlett has given me nothing but pleasurable memories, our longest trip has been to Sun City and I've only ever had one flat tyre. This car albeit not having an aircon, power steering, or ABS has literally become part of my persona. Im sure while some of you are rolling your eyes others can understand the love for your (first) car!
So here we are in 2012, Scarlett has been my trusty steed, dicing through traffic, taking on taxis and never failing to start every morning with nothing but a basic service once a year. She's parked in the blazing sun, the cold winter night and handled potholes like a legend. Unfortunately our needs change and ABS becomes a priority, aircon is a necessity and power steering is non negotiable. If it wasn't for the fact that I too am growing up and older I would keep her till she fell apart. Honestly she will probably outlive me anyway!
So this is farewell my wonderful friend. Thank you for all you've done for me from the night I christened you with red wine on your bonnet at Julie and Marks house till today sitting in our new and much deserved garage. I love you and I have no doubt you will make your next owner as full of joy and pride as you gave me every single day for the last 4 years. xxxxx
